If you're ever lucky enough to stop at The Seaside, at Gooch's Beach in the Kennebunks, you'll taste the sublime muffins that Holly bakes every morning. This morning, freshly baked Cinnamon Streusel Muffins. Now how did she know that my favorite spice is cinnamon?
There are of course the crabapples that belong to someone, then there are the other ones, those who escaped and grow on the side of the road or in a field. Then, one is tempted to pick some branch tips to put in a glass of water.

I would have loved to ask for the recipe... somehow, I turned shy. Can't wait for her to publish her recipe book.

I did find two beautiful books. The first one, Lobster Tales, features only lobster recipes. Written by two women chefs who own two reputable Maine restaurants, Hurricane and Kennebunk Inn, and who run a cooking school, it's a treasure trove filled with their own recipes (lobster infused oil or lobster stock, for example) and recipes from people who know all about lobster (like the Ugly Anne's skipper and his Lobster Stew recipe).

A little footnote on the name of that lobster fishing boat, the Ugly Anne, whose picture I published the other day. New Englanders have a particular sense of humor, one could say that they are tongue in cheek. Look at the Ugly Anne... ain't nothing «ugly» about her. In fact, she's quite pretty. But she mustn't be told ;-P

As for the other book, it features recipes from the White Barn Inn. I had the pleasure to dine there, and to stay there as well, many many years ago, when it was striving to build up its reputation. Now, it's one of the best tables in America and member of the famed Relais & Châteaux. I struck a bargain by getting the book rather than going to have dinner there. One recipe caught my eye straight away. Halibut glazed with hollandaise and served on a bed of fiddlehead greens and wild mushrooms. Nice, don't you think?

It's not very warm these days in Maine, but I was surprised to find that the ocean's temperature is quite comfortable.

The weather changes from radiant sunshine to scattered clouds. But the crabapples' colors are so vibrant that you forget about the clouds.
