I like peppermint Christmas candy canes. Did you know that they were invented by French priests in 1400 and that they then were white and straight? It's only when they crossed the Atlantic towards America that, at the beginning of the 20th century, they acquired those pretty red stripes. The J shape hails from Cologne, in the 17th century.

I also like the taste of chocolate and I think I'm probably not the only one. Is there anything more seductive than the unctuous sight of fluid dark chocolate? Not much, I would think... ;-)

Here's how you can associate the taste of dark chocolate, white chocolate and peppermint candy canes.

ÉCORCE AUX 2 CHOCOLATS ET À LA MENTHE
2 CHOCOLATE AND PEPPERMINT BARK

Ingrédients
  • égales quantités de chocolat noir semi-sucré et de chocolat blanc | equal quantities of dark semi-sweet and white chocolate

  • Dans 2 bols séparés, faire fondre le chocolat au micro-ondes, en chauffant 1 minute à la fois puis en mélangeant à la spatule jusqu'à ce qu'il soit fondu | in two separate bowls, melt the chocolates in the microwave, minute by minute then mixing it with a spatula until it is melted
  • Étaler à la spatule le chocolat noir en premier sur une plaque à biscuit tapissée de papier parchemin | spread the dark chocolate with a spatula on a parchment paper lined baking sheet
  • Recouvrir d'une couche de poudre de canne à la menthe | cover with a fine dusting of powdered candy cane
  • Étaler ensuite le chocolat blanc fondu puis saupoudrer à nouveau de poudre de canne de Noël | spread the white chocolate on top then dust again with candy cane powder
  • Mettre au frigo jusqu'à ce qu'il durcisse (avant que l'écorce ne soit tout à fait dure, si vous en avez la patience, vous pouvez couper l'écorce à l'emporte-pièce) | put in the fridge until the bark hardens (before the bark is completely hard, if you have the patience, you might want to cut it with a cookie cutter)
